Hello S5-Eng not too sure what could be wrong and you seemed to have done your homework. You do however say that "I have tried to reset the system many times (as per Siemens manual)". I wonder though if you did follow the IM308-318 restart procedure properly. Please have a look the startup chapter 3 of the 318/308 manuals, you can download these from the links below: 318-3UA11 Central Controller Interface Module 308-3UA12 Expansion Unit Interface Module Theyalso contain asection aboutError diagnostics which may help you further. I hope this helps |

Hello again S5-Eng alright, let's have a look at some of the other observations you made and allowme to ask some more questions (you supplied documents - while helpful - do unfortunately not contain any further clues to what could be wrong). You said that "The previous IM-318 had gone bad". Q1: Do you know what lead to it's failure (e.g. did it happen after a power surge or failure in your plant etc. If so it could have lead to failures of other cards/components)? Q2: Do you have a spare IM308 (if the IM318 failed due to external influences it may have also taken out its counterpart IM308)? You also said that "The problem is that when the system is powerd up, IM-318 Fault LED remains solid red. On the CPU in CC, the BASP LED remains solid red, and neither of the Stop/ Run LED on the CPU is active. Also the SI1 LED on the CPU is active, and does not allow to communicate with the PLC via PG." This CPU state (SI1 & BASP LED lit, RUN & STOP LED off) indicate that the CPU is still in the Initial Start or program check state(which should only last a couple of seconds or so). Since you CPU seems to be "stuck" in this this state I wonder if perhaps your spare IM318 is faulty too and the cause for this so the next set of questions is: Q3: Do you have the same "stuck" startup state when the original faulty IM318 is installed? Q4: Do you have another spare IM318? Last but not least you said that "Took out the Serial connector from the IM-308 in CC :SI1 fault vanished" Q5: Please confirm that this is just a typing mistake and clarify which cable you took out from which IM (the IM308 should be located in the EU and NOT in the CC). I hope the answers to the questions will help us to help you further. |
