Data Acquisition from SIMODRIVE 611 system

I am working on solution to collect the Motor Current data from SIMODRIVE 611 system. The system is very old and the drives are analog drives. The PLC and NCU are combined. I contacted Siemens CS and they asked me to contact TechSolve Inc a Siemens solution partner company. They come up with the Adapter VA-SHA-1.3-0.0 Siemens SINUMERIK 840D w/HMI Advanced MTConnect Adapter.

1. Have any one used this adapter?

 1st of all, Siemens suggest TechSolve Inc a Siemens solution partner company.--why you don't ask them--if they have no idea--why Siemens suggest them?

2. Does it dependent on Solution Line / Power Line type of the 840D CNCs or it is universal? I read 2 different adapters for NCU and PCU. From what I understand from initial conversation with the customer, they are using old system which has PLC and FM-NC NCU combined. I spoke to Siemens and they said that is very old system.The machine is an CNC machining center with 840D Power-line control.

3. The end goal here is able to transfer the data to the database that they have in their plant. Does this adapter capable of doing this? I read about the MT Connect software. Is it possible to configure MT Connect to communicate with the database?

4. How to interface this Adapter to 840D system?

5. Is there any dedicated config tool to configure this adapter? or is it just a plug and play tool?

6. Does anyone has detailed user manual for this?

A: We have adapters for 840D with HMI Advanced, Operate on NCU, Operate on PCU, and the older MMC103 based CNCs that run Winows NT and 95.

a: MTConnect cannot be configured. It's a standard XML based protocol.  It is fully defined so that any client application that receives MTConnect data doesn't have to be configured for any specific CNC or other device - they are all represented in the same way.  The only difference is what data each device can deliver.

4. How to interface this Adapter to 840D system?

The adapter must be installed on the 840D. Essentially, this means placing the adapter and config files in a certain directory, and modifying an existing config file that starts the adapter with the HMI.

5. Is there any dedicated config tool to configure this adapter? or is it just a plug and play tool?

A: The adapter is configured with an xml file.  A standard set of data items are already configured to be 'on.'  THey can be turned off and others can be added.


6. Does anyone has detailed user manual for this?
