Data logging ,reporting and programming Software and hardware selection

ahsan1820 Posts: 119 Rating: (1)	Hi good day, I want to automate a small process and also give a report generation and data logging with it .Tell me the best possible ways how can I do that?as in my mind I must automate my process via s7-200 PLC and get it data on PC serial port and then log it via VB script.guide me in Hardware and software selection.

ahsan1820 Posts: 119 Rating: (1)	hi, I have to mix a powder form material with liquid all i have to automate its process and also make a report contains quaintity of these two ingredients per batch or per day usage or annual usage of material.All these options i have to give in report generator so that we can easily audit his plant throughout the year. Hi your application is every batch (lot) has to be updated in excel sheet..? but you are not mentioned the project total I/O sizning. as per my knowledge better to S7-300 CPU 319-2 PN/DP module CPU and Wincc 6.0 or 6.2 version. because there is trend alaram loging aparat from this there is seperate Datalogger softwareis available.

I have less then 10 I/O's. No need of Trends,and Alarm logging can be done on any HMI on wincc flexible ,so why Wincc 6.0? And please tell me some easy logging & reporting method for these I/O's. And I think s7-200 will reduce my cost as I dont need any faster CPU,so why go for s7 300?

RKM Posts: 93 Rating: (13)	Dear Ahsan, I would sujjest you should move from S7-200 to S7-1200 because200 is replaced by 1200 since a long so in future difficult to get a support. Secondly 1200 would present a cost effective solution. It has an etheret port to directly communicate withPC .There is not any requirement of an HMI eitheryou can go with Wincc advance runtime on PC with taglogging feature to generate report. and also you excel reporting willalso be satisfied and would be easy to integrete. Also as a new product in the market Siemens is giving a good discount on multiple order. best regards.

Hi , if you want to use report for audit then you can use wincc Flexi audit software addon . wincc fexi comes with inbuilt data logging fuctionality built it will log data at defined rate to csv file. if you want to format data to be logged in defined format then you have to write VB script so you can report data into excle as you required, as i see from your I/O requirement is very small you can use 200/1200 PLC it is enough regards, viralpatel

You may use S7-200 with OPC. . The example is given in link to get data from S7-200. .
