Dead S7-315 - Solved

kissp Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, I've got S7-315 CPU with obvious fault. SF light on, 5V light on and STOP light flashes very slowly. I found CPU requires memory reset. I tried do that (followed siemens manual) but after that I finish with all lights flashing rapidly apart of 5V light(on permanently). Only way how to get rid of that is power CPU down, but SF comes on again with STOP light flashing after power on. I cannot get CPU communicate with PG (using serial cable or MPI/USB adapter). What I want to do is upgrade CPU firmware (requires !!! 2MB !!! memory card - haven't got one). Will that upgrade help? Thanks

Does it have the MMC already? If the CPU still wants memory reset after done this, the memory card should be formatted (hold the mode switch in MRES position approx. 10s, the STOP LED should light permanently and within next 3 seconds release the switchand immediately toggle it once again to MRES position, now the STOP LED should flash quickly, and release the switch). Another thing - have you checked the diagnostic buffer? Regards Sydney

mumbles Posts: 160 Rating: (16)	Hi, If possible have a look at the diagnostic buffer as Sydney suggested. However I have seen this problem before and the only solution was to update the firmware. Depending upon your current version it is also possible to do this online. Have a look through the descriptions of the fixes done in the firnware upgrades. It makes for very interesting reading.

kissp Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	That was first thing what I wanted to check -diagnosticbuffer. But problem is, there is no communication between PG and PLC. Message: No partner found.... It is PLC with old type memory card (big one). Any ideas?

kissp Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Yes, I've checked the nodes as well, but none visible or available. I just wonder why that funny flashing (all LEDs rapidly) after MRES. There must be something behind that. Anybody experienced same fault?

Hello kissp,

I think you should try with firmware update. You have alredy found the necessaries procedure for this. (

The client wanted to upload the software from the memory card and make some modifications and redownload it again. I tried many times to connect my PC via a PC adaptor to the CPU. It fails! I was doubt of my PC adapter but I have checked it. It's fine! Afterwords, I have make the upload and download to the memory card using PG promer. It was the only way I could access the memory card. I do not know why? But I think there was something wrong in the MPI / DP ports of the CPU. specially because when I connect the PC adapter to the CPU, Its leds should lit. It wasn't! And I know that the PC adapter supplied from the CPU. Any way I have solved my problem using PG promer. You can check this way. Or another way is to insert the memory card into another CPU if you have, download the modified software and then return it to the original CPU. It will work. Good Luck.

kissp Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I've managed to fix that PLC. I opened it and found circuit board contaminated so I cleaned CB. Now all working fine. Thanks for all your replays,appreciate it.
