Different architecture

              What is the difference between Distributed Architecture & Central architecture.

               Also its advantages & disadvantages over each other.

Central configuration requires installation of all I/Os in the central rack with a decentralized configuration, you can install I/O modules in vicinity of machine sections.

for central configuration,it is good for small machines with limited number of I/Os while decentralized configuration  saves wiring cost and makes the whole machine structure easier to understand but is vulnerable to physical constraints of network cables,noise and data corruption(frame loss). Search the net for more relative information.

For centralized architecture, you can think of a standard CPU that all I/Os are connected in central rack.This is the case for small CPUs without DP/PN integral ports /without CPs or IMs.For modules on central rack, you can check the whole range in hw config editor catalog.It is for a small machine.

For decentralized architecture, you can think an S7-400 CPU with initegral DP/PN port and it controls a big machine with sensors/actuators in distance.Using modular(e.g ET200M) slaves/devices will facilitate the CPU connection to remote I/O.

     In this case Rack-0 is central rack & Rack-1 is Expansion rack.

     is it right?

You are correct, Rack 0 is a central rack, and Rack 1 (you can also have Rack 2 and Rack 3) are expansion racks.

These expansion racks are connected to the central rack by IM modules (interface modules) and dedicated cables that extend the backplane of the central rack for a short distance, so they are all considered part of the Centralized architecture.

If you use the Profibus or Profinet ports, with Profibus/Profinet IMs and adequate cables, you are now considered using Distributed architecture.
