The trouble is he is using an S7-1200.... not so easy. @engco... See if the "CTRL_HSC_EXT" function helps you, but I think this will not work in your case. That means you have to make it "seems" as though the HSC stops. Please check "CTRL_HSC_EXT" function first. @others: Any other thoughts? w

But a solution could be: Save the counter-value with a rising edge of I4.0 and write it back in the counter with a falling edge of I4.0. And copy the counter value to an other MD or DB when I4.0 is not true. And from this MD or DB you use the counter value. Have a look in the S71200 System Manual, chapter 10.1 how the counter control instructions work. hope this helps, regards,

From elsewhere in the forum: William_B The short answer: No you cannot stop the HSC on the S7-1200. Yes you can let it seem as though the HSC is stopped - the longer answer follows.. When you do the hardware configuration for the HSC, an input word is linked to it. This needs to be named in the TAG TABLE, defined as a DINT type. For example"myCount"linked to %ID1000. NOTE: Be sure to set the filtering time of the digital input used, to a low time value. In the program you can read"myCount"as a number to give you the (close to) current value. For the actual current value at that very moment can be read via"myCount":P. If you need to stop the count, you capture the actual HSC value and store it in a variable (example:"stopCount": MD100 as DINT). If the count starts again you can use the CTRL_HSC instruction to load"stopCount"into the HSC. You'll use the CV pin of the instruction. In your case.. a) positive edge trigger of %I0.4 makes "myCount" >> "stopCount". b) while %I0.4 is true, "myCount" cannot be used, but "stopCount" is the legal value. c) negative edge trigger of %I0.4 trigger through CTRL_HSC instruction to make "stopCount" >> "myCount". w
