Doubt between G120 with Encoder feedback and S120 with Resolver feedback

Andrés_Ariza Experienced Member Joined: 9/3/2014 Last visit: 1/4/2023 Posts: 77 Rating: (4)	Dear Experts, I have a doubt between G120 with Encoder feedback and S120 with Resolver feedback, I am working in a migration project and the machine has frequency converters with Resolver feedback, I need to change this converters to Sinamics converters, I can read resolver feedback with S120 and SMC10, but I don't have the software configurator for this devices, if I am not wrong is Simotion Scout, furthermore the converters are expensive, so I thought to use Sinamics G120 converters with Encoder feedback, in the machine we need to control the velocity of some axes, we don't need to control the position of these, I'd be helpful if you my dear experts can give me some tips or advices and the difference between the two controls with Resolver and with Encoder. ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 3/20/2023 Posts: 21352 Rating: (2820)	Hi, for SINAMICS drives you can use SIMOTION SCOUT, but better is STARTER or STARTDRIVE if you only use the Standalone Drives without a SIMOTION CPU. !STARTDRIVE only supports G120 at the moment! Resolver is not more then a Encoder Type in the SINAMICS, so there are not really diferences between the Encoder an Resolver. The only G120 drive which can handle Ecoder(Resolver) is the G120 CU250S-2, but this drive type only supports Vector Control Mode, on a S120 drive System you can work with Servo Control mode. Or check if the SINAMICS S110 (CU305) is a solution for your . Regards Christoph

Andrés_Ariza Experienced Member Joined: 9/3/2014 Last visit: 1/4/2023 Posts: 77 Rating: (4)	Hi Mr ChristophD I am grateful for your quickly answer, it has been very helpful, I only need Vector Control Mode, but I don't understand something, may be you can help me, my motors are AC voltage and all of them have one Resolver 5.5 Volts and 10 KHz, (for each one), I was trying to put a Control Unit CU 250 DP because it lets me connect a Resolver sensor but when I was setting the parameters I can´t find Resolver like an option, only Encoder, I don´t know, How can I connect "physical connection" my Resolvers to my control units, Do I have to buy a SMC10 module for each one?, What is terminal interface, SUB D interface, Drive - Cliq interface?, I know that I can connect a Resolver with S120 through Drive - Cliq interface but no for G120 coverters. ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 3/20/2023 Posts: 21352 Rating: (2820)	Hello, in the picture you must choose "with Encoder", then in the further steps you can configure the Encoder exactly, here then you can select "Resolver". To which Interface you connect depends which Resolver Interface you have on you encoder. DQ means SMI20(Motor Build in Encoder!). Which connector do you have for the Resolver? A Sub D connector or open Cable ends or what? Regards Christoph

The 9 pin Sub D from the SIMOVERT can connected to the Terminalblock of the CU250. Pin layout should be: SIMOVERT CU250 A1 76 A2 77 S1 72 S2 70 S3 73 S4 71 Regards Christoph

Andrés_Ariza Experienced Member Joined: 9/3/2014 Last visit: 1/4/2023 Posts: 77 Rating: (4)	Hi, I am grateful with your help, I was searching some information about CU 250, I found one interesting document, in this manual I saw about terminal blocks and such you told me I can connect my resolver sensor in this Control Unit, this is for CU 250 profibus, CU 250 CAN and CU 250 USS, but I have some doubts about CU 250 PN profinet, I don't know how can I connect my resolver sensor, I need to make the project with Profinet, I know that one option is buy SMC10 module for read the resolver sensors in S120 converters, I don´t know if this applies for G120 converters, and How can I configure this modules, with Starter software o may be from TIA? I don´t know which is the difference between SMC and SME? and Where can I configure this modules, Wich software?
