trying to download directly to the SMC is a good recommendation.

If you will do this with TIA directly, you may run into the same message.

But you can try Option "3" from following FAQ:

How do you create the project data for the SMC so that you can download the project to the S7-1200/S7-1500 CPU even without STEP 7 (TIA Portal)?

After you generated the file "S7_JOB.SYS" and the folder "SIMATIC.S7S" in an folder on the PC, you can manually copy/paste the file "S7_JOB.SYS" and the folder "SIMATIC.S7S" to the SIMATIC Memory Card with the Windows explorer.

Important:

Do not format the SMC with windows!
