Hello prasad; Profibus-PA and Profibus-DP do not share the same physical bus parameters, and since PA is a subordinate network to DP you need some network interfacing device between the two, in order to connect a PA instrument to the DP bus. This is the DP/PA coupler's function. It adapts the bus profiles so thedata from the PA instruments is available to the DP master. However, the DP/PA couplercannot adapt the bus speed of boith networks, and PA instruments transmit at 31,35 kB. With a coupler between the PA line and the DP bus, the whole DP bus has to go down in speed to 45, 45 kB (93,5 kB is you are using a DP/PA coupler from Pepperl Fuchs). If you want (or need) to keep the DP bus at high bus speeds (up to 12 MB) youhave to isolate the 2 buses, using a DP/PA link; ths unit is constructed with an IM 153-2 DP slave, associated with one or more DP/PA couplers and their PA instruments. The DP/PA link will allow the DP bus to run at its own speed, while the subordinate PA lines run at their own, without causing mismatches. You will find much more information on the DP/PA coupler and link, and in more detailed fashion, in the following manual: SIMATIC Bus links DP/PA coupler, active field distributors, DP/PA Link and Y Link Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello hariprasad below area coupleadditional Siemens related linksto complement Daniel's thorough advice: What must you watch out for when connecting PROFIBUS PA devices to the PROFIBUS DP? How is the DP/PA link structured? More importantly though, your choice of DP/PA "Gateway" is no longer limited to either Siemens or P&F. PROCENTEC now also has a PA module available for their COMbricks family which is not only a permanent Oscilloscope featuredPA bus Monitor, but can also be used as a transparent PA coupler which supports up to 1.5Mbps baudrate on the DP side. To be fair, higher DP baudrates do require some serious DP bus parameter adjustments, some of which are notallowed byStep 7. Not to worry too much though, PA link functionality is in preparation for the COMbricks PA module and you are then well and truly spoilt for choice. Go to http://www.procentec.com/combricks/index.phpto find out more about COMbricks and the PA module and note that you can also see a live COMbricks demo at http://combricks.procentec.com/. I hope this helps and to make sure we won't forget the Disclaimer with this advice: I do work for a Company that is also a PROCENTEC Gold Distributor |

New question splitted to problems to implement a DP/PA Coupler Ex [ia] (6ES7 157-0AD82-0XA0) in an Intrinsically Safe PA network Best regards O_Moderator |
