In other words: When the door is closed, the light curtain is bypassed. Are you allowed to program such safety logic?

In case of failure of these signals, you should stop your operation. e.g. valve, motors etc. In other words, bring your machine to safe state. Now, if you want to bypass safety input light curtain if door is closed, this can be done by simply using ladder language(Use ANDing of both signals). You can bypass light curtain sensor but if it is not 'safe', your PLC will execute safety routine and PLC may be stopped.
