Errors during the communication through an OPC UA Server from a 1515F-2 PLC Client

Hi, I try to use the template which is placed in the forum to describe my problem;

• Operating System:Windows 7
• TIA Version:V15.1 (and TIA portal Openness)
• Service pack and update:Update 2
• Hardware Modules numbers :CPU 1515F-2 PN (6ES7 515-2FM01-0AB0 V2.6)
• The desired application: OPC UA Client

The Problems (Bugs) : OPC_UA_Connect errors; 16#8005_0000 and 16#8081_0000. OPC_UA_ConnectionGetStatus error; 16#A000_0105

I have a Profinet Subnet which is connected to one of the interfaces of the CPU to control process components. I use the second interface in order to connect to an OPC UA Server and only read the tags as an OPC UA Client.

OPC UA Server: KEPServer EX/UA Server V.3

I use example projects which are placed in the subject;TIP: S7 1500 OPC UA Server Client Communication, ...

The main problem is even I can connect to the OPC UA Server from TIA Portal (while I'm trying to create Client Interface) I can't establish communication between PLC and OPC UA Server in the logic.

Actually I have followed all the instructions.

I can reach to the OPC UA Server from TIA Portal when I try to create Client Interface (in attached file Online OPC Server Communication in TIA Portal)

Also, I can drag and drop the items that I try to read to Read List in the Client Interface from Online OPC UA Server connection (in attached file Online Creation of Read List from OPC UA Server)

I use also BlockMonitoring FB which is already in example projects to monitor communication status.

I got two errors after triggering a communication from OPC_UA_Connect function. The first one is 16#8005_0000. I also sometimes have another error as 16#8081_0000. However, I haven't succeeded a communication through OPC UA Server yet. (screenshots are attached in the file)

I have also 16#A000_0105 error when I monitor OPC_UA_ConnectionGetStatus function. I couldn't find any explanation for this error in the help (Information System TIA Portal)

I think, it is problem with the OPC UA server port number. When you connected with client interface, you did not used any port number, but in the Connection Parameter - Port field you configured port :4840 . I don't know the OPC UA server you mentioned, but I think, you need to have a server configuration file where you can configure the server's port number.

Thanks for the reply.

I've checked with the OPC UA Server that the server uses 4840  to communicate with its clients. The server has already some connections to other clients with port 4840.

So do you still think it could be a problem of port configuration?

I have the same problem. The Connect function always returns the error code 8005.

Unfortunately I could not solve the problem yet. With a PC client and with the setup of the variables went fine.  I have now opened a SupportRequest at Siemens and hope to find an answer here.

i working with TIA 15.1 Update 3 and a 1515-2 PN (Firmware 2.6.1).

I got the answer from Siemens, but unfortunately I couldn't test it yet.

Siemens answer:

Many OPC UA servers respond with a qualified domain name instead of the IP address.
If this is the case, some additional steps must be considered when configuring the OPC UA client of the S7-1500.

Requirements:
A DNS server must be located in the same network.
The DNS server must be configured so that the name of the OPC UA server is resolved to its IP address.

1) The name of the OPC UA server cannot be entered in the configuration of the OPC UA client.
Enter the IP address and port number instead.
2) The endpoint URL must be overwritten with the name within the user program.
Use a global database or overwrite the value in OB100.
3) Enter the DNS server address into the HWCN of the PLC.
4) The DNS server must be present in the network and must be configured so that the name is resolved to the corresponding IP address.

Maybe it'll help someone else with an OPC client with a 1500:
Starting with TIA 16 with firmware 2.8 you don't need a DNS server in network anymore, if the OPC server returns a name instead of IP address. Siemens fix this problem.

If you insert the complete ServerEndpointUrl (server address in the wizard) as start value in the client interface Configuration DB under Connection -> ConnectInfo -> ServerUri in the string, the comparison is skipped and there is no error code 8005_0000 anymore.

Worked great for me.

Our setup:

Hardware: S7-1516F-3 PN/DP (6ES7 516-3FN01-0AB0)

Firmware: V2.8

Software: TIA V15.1 & TIA V16

OPC UA server: Unified Automation uaCppServer

We tried the project example (109762770_OPC_UA_PLC-Client), both with V15.1 and V16, following the manual. The only way we got it working was by editing the OPC UA server (CPP) so it's name contains the IP-address (opc.tcp://<ipaddress>:48010). Unfortunately this is often not possible with real production OPC UA servers.

Error code 8005_0000 is indeed a comparison of the received ServerUrl containing the server/domain name. Wireshark traces show:

1) OpenSecureChannel data (request/response)

2) The CPU requests GetEndPoints for opc.tcp://<ipaddress>:48010

3) The UA server responds with EndPoint details for opc.tcp://<servername>:48010

4) S7 CPU says: you're not the one I want/need and breaks the connection.

Putting opc.tcp://<servername>:48010 in Connection -> ConnectInfo -> ServerUri to bypass the check as suggested did not work for us. Can you elaborate?

Remarks:

1) I tried all possible combinations within ServerEndPointUrl & ServerUri (ip and name)

2) DNS address is configured in CPU but resolving is in TCP segment, not in OPC-UA (unless Siemens does this as a workaround which would even make it harder to diagnose).
