Firmware-Update

Hi,

I had use S7-1200 in the factory for afew years, do i need to update it's firmware? or since when do i have to update the firmware, thanks in advance.

Hi.

Typically the firmware is left as is unless there is a fix of a problem you experience or a new functionality is required.

Firmware earlier than V2.2 should be updated to V2.2 for better stability. Newer Step7 versions do not access earlier version. Firmware V3 cannot be updated beyond a small incremental version. Firmware V4 and above can be freely updated, but not all Step7 versions are able to address all of those to its maximum potential.

Many of my projects are on Step7 V15 where I am only able to add S7-1200 to projects as firmware V4.2. This is fine for what I do. Updating to firmware V4.5 / Step7 V17 is possible but delivers a logistical issue for our services department. Besides the V4.5 / V17 has some quirks that causes problems for me in the field. 

So what is the detail of your situation?
