Flex 2005 SP1 and Attempt to Open '05 HF4 File

Before this, my Flex was up to date with HotFix 4. Sadly, I am unable to open a TP270 project that I developed under HotFix 4. Flex starts to load the data, but then displays a dialog box which reads: "This project was created with an incompatible or beta version of WinCC flexible. It was last opened with WinCC flexible 2005 (V 1.1.0 HF 4 (1.2.1)). Open the project with a valid WinCC flexible version. If it was a beta version, use the official release version." The only other thing that sets this Flex project apart from some others is that it was generated using the Step 7 software (V5.3). I am waiting for a reply on the subject from the Tech Support hotline. If any solutions are forthcoming, I will happily post them here. However, any help from the forum would also be appreciated. I presume the installation of SP1 went ok with no glitches(like that would ever happen [:D] ) What should happen is that you get a dialogue saying it was created with a previous version and a backup will be created so you can still open it with HF4. If it was an integrated project have you browsed the Step 7 project folder? there should be 2 Project name.HMI files(one called project name.backup.HMI). Maybe this can help. Please post back so we can try something else.

The same message as before resulted. As far as the update to SP1, insofar as I am aware, the installation went fine. I figure I would remember if there were problems (as I do on 2004's updates...) In any case, I was even advised yesterday that there is a HotFix 4 for '05 Service Pack 1. (Before, I had installed HF4 for the original release of '05.) This new HotFixI have installed, but it has not helped me with opening my original project file. Tech Support should now have my .HMI file, thanks to the wonders of e-mail, so I hope to hear from them today regarding what is happening. We'll see...

Don't forget to post back the feedback [:D] I guess you didn't have a backup .hmi file as it didn't get that far. Just had another thought - if it's integrated maybe try a save as with re-organisation in Step 7. Just an outside chance but you never know.

Before SP1 was released for Flex '05, I had installed a Windows CE Platform SDK for Flex. This naturally had hooks into the engineering software. Unfortunately, it appears that the SDK was highly release-specific. As I struggled with this old project problem, I also noticed that Flex was behaving with much less stability following the SP1 upgrade, particularly with respect to faceplate development. With this realization, I removed the SDK from my installation. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem, so I finally had to reinstall Flex. The good news is that it has remedied both my old project loading and faceplate stability problem. On the down-side, it looks like I'll have to wait until the SDK gets updated for the latest release if I am to use it with Flex again. Happy Friday, The Captive Engineer
