Frequency use of an output

Claude David Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Hello, in an application, i've got an output on my S7-1200 that switches "On-Off" every 0,2 sec (M58.1 5Hz cadenced memento). The question is : Will i damage my S7 1200's digital output by making it switch on a cadenced 5 Hz memento? I know that it might be a "dumb" question but before doing anything that could damage my hardware, i would like your opinion on the issue.. Best regards, Claude Attachment CM.jpg (142 Downloads)

Steven81 Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Which CPU? You do not want to use a Relay Output, but otherwise you should have no problem.At that switching rate, the relay will not last long. The manual shows the outputs switch musch faster than that. For example the CPU1214CDC/DC/DC showsfour of the pusle outputs can switch 100KHz (Qa.0, Qa.3) and four can switch at30KHz (Qa.4 to Qb1). Switching delay of Qa.4 to Qb.1 are listed at 50us max off to on and 200us max on to off. So the on and off times are different and may skew the edges so you might want to look closely at that to be sure it won't effect your operation. Steven

Claude David Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	I took a closer look at my s7 1212 AC/DC/Rly and it seems that i have a SB1232 AQ installed (this one). Would the use of the PWM a solution in my case? But before that, can this SB1232 AQ handle the use of PWM?

Steven81 Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	I do not bellieve the analog module will be a good solution to your application. I would recommend you use an SB 1222 DQ 4 X 24VDC, 200kHz (6ES7 222-1BD30-0XB0) if you need 24V drive, or SB 1222 DQ 4 X 5 VDC, 200kHz (6ES7 222-1AD30-0XB0) if you eed 5VDC drive. These would provide you with the speed you require and proper drive levels. Respectfully, Steven

The output (Q0.4) controls a 10V DC motor used to rotate an object. But the motor rotates too fast.. That's the reason why i want to "split" the rotation of the motor. Wouldn't the use of a PWM a solution?

Steven81 Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Can you adjust the voltage to the 10V motor to reduce the speed? The relay output is not going to be a good solution for PWM operation, which is what you are trying to impliment. Respectfully, Steven

With your budget, you are probably better off putting a belted pulley system between the object's shaft and the motor shaft. Adjust pulley diameters to get the speed ratio you need. If you try to run more than 2A through your relay output, you may have other problems.
