I run into HART on the field instrument side, but not on the Analog Input side. Occasionally a question on HART analog inputs comes up and there's rarely, if ever, any feedback as to how the situatation was resolved, and up until now, no HART AI end-user has been around to answer HART questions. Some considerations about HART: 1. I seriously doubt that a HART AI module is plug-and-play. Getting a HART module up and running is a small project in itself. 2. I would think that if you purchased a HART enabled AI card, that you should be able to configure it to get the PV, SV, TV and QV variables. The stand-alone modules that poll the field instrument and output PV, SV, TV and QV variables are used by people who do not have PLC hardware that cannot handle a HART AI card, so they use the external, stand-alone HART module to get the data from a field transmitter. 3. HART tends to be backwards compatible from the latest HART 7 back through HART 5. You mention that the Krohne transmitter is HART 7. But I don't know about the effect of HART version incompatabilities on the AI card/PLC side. The manual covering HART AI cards, SIMATIC ET 200M distributed I/O device HART analog modules, downloadable below, does not mention the HART version of the AI card. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/us/en/view/22063748 The manual does mention firmware updates, firmware revs for the card and Step 7. Have you worked your way through the manual? |

Web searches for difference between HART 5, 6, and 7 reveal that HART functionality is intended to be backwards compatible for commands that are already implemented, like reading multiple variables. Apparently, that is not the case with your equipment. It is interesting to note that Rosemount provides a means of selecting either HART 5 or HART 7 on it hygenic 3051HT pressure transmitter, related to 'compatability'. See the attached extracted page from the Quick Start Guide. You might check to see if the Krohne device offers a similar selection for either HART 5 or HART 7. If you have confirmed that your ET200M module has the latest firmware update, then you'll have to submit a Siemens Support Request for factory assistance with the ET200M. Be sure to include firmware revisions. Edit: added attachment Attachment3051 QS guide-hygienic-PT hart-revision-5-7-protocol-en-79898.pdf (779 Downloads) |
