High Speed Counters in S7300

nandgate Posts: 319 Rating: (9)	Dear Experts, I have an application in which i have to count the Pulses coming from an incremental encoder. Which PLC is advisable for this ? Any add on modules are required for this purpose? Kindly suggest the required configuration for this and for other kinds of Encoders. And if Possible also send me a Sample Program. Generally it is possible toprocessencoder input signals. Eitheroninternal (compact) CPU's or with external function modules (i.e. FM350-1) on other CPU's. What you shouldverify is that the input module can handle your encoder signal. A quick look atboth specs. will tell you. Regards.

SolutionFinder Posts: 559 Rating: (87)	Dear Nandgate, As already informed to you that you can use CPU 313C or CPU 314C which have internal High speed counters are available. But in the other side kindly check out for the Total I/Os required for your application & memory required for the programing of that CPU for your application. The Work memory for higher CPU range is Max 192 KB. So please check that also will it be enough for your applciation or not? Other wise you can go for CPU 315 and use FM modules.

One in which i have to measure the speed of a motor (only for display purpose), for which i feel an incremental encoder is OK. In the second application i have to know the position, for which i think an absolute encoder will do. The number of interlocks in both the applications are not many. So i feel that the program size will be below 64k.What module is preferable for the above applications and Which program blocks do i have to use ?

Alternativlyit's worth to checkout the S7-1200as well. You can't beat the pricewith a S7-300.
