HotSwap in s7300/400 systems

I always turn off 300 modules before setting any new one and then while insertin HW config it goes stp again. If I am right that is the same procedure with s7-400. Dont you think it sholud be possible to make it all on-line? Is it going to be possible to make so with s7-1200? best regards

Hot swapping (replacing module online) is available in S7-400 CPU whether you work with central modules (S7-400) or S7-300 modules (Profibus & Profinet). With S7-300 CPU, it's available but just with Profinet. Or maybe you can use the trick mentioned here If I/O modules (in the ET200M) are inserted or removed during operation, then OB83 is called. But this OB is not supported by the CPUs of the S7-300 series, because it is not available in the CPU operating system. If the ET200M is configured as standard slave in STEP7 (via the GSD file), then Insert/Remove is possible, because in this case it is not OB83 but OB82 that is called. This OB is supported by all S7-300/400 CPUs Best regards. H-H

dendhondt Bronze Member Joined: 8/5/2009 Last visit: 7/4/2022 Posts: 156 Rating: (7)	I don't know much about hotswap possibillities But I just worked with a new type S7 CPU 6ES7 315-2EH14 V3.2.3 This CPU has Profinet IO If you look at the online Technical data it is possible to use OB83 (only for Profinet IO ) Technical data new 315 PN DP

As sample for CPU I 6ES7 315-2EH14 V3.2.3 see intechnical data possible to use OB83 only for Profinet IO . This is due to the fact that when inserting / removing a module called OB83, andyour the program can correctly handle ofthe change configuration

There is another problem if you want to change module with different order number. Ex. DI16 change to DI32. You still have to update firmaware and this operation is not allowed in RUN state.
