How do I connect to the PLC without knowing the IP address

I will do my best and some of the information can hopefully be seen on the attached screenshots too:

It is a 314 PLC with the following number: 6ES7 314-1AF11-0AB0 firmware 2.0

What is the CP?

I was hoping to connect the the PLC with a standard network cable with RJ45 plus in each end as I do with almost all of our machines.

I also have a USB cable with "standard" USB plug in one end and mini USB in the other end but I think that is for direct connection to the Siemens drives we have.

I THINK there is another cable in my coworkers bag (he is on vacation now) I have borrowed earlier but I am not sure. It might have been to connect to SSD drives.

I just tried looking in the Industry Mall but it is still not clear to me - which options are there to connect to the "SIMATIC S7-300, CPU 314 CPU WITH MPI INTERFACE INTEGRATED 24 V DC POWER SUPPLY 64 KBYTE WORKING MEMORY" ?

If you tell me which cable / converter(s) I need I will search for them - I am pretty sure we have it somewhere.

which PLC? Which CP?

How exactly connected to the machine?
Which MPI/DP Adapter you use?

this is a PLC with only MPI Interface, so you need a MPI Adapter for connect the PC to the PLC (or you have a PG with onboard MPI Adapter like SIEMENS Field PG).

CP mean communication processor which can be use to expand the PLC interfaces to additional connections like a Ethernte CP as Ether net interface to PLC.

I am almost sure we have a MPI Adapter with a USB plug for the PG.

It is something like this I need to search for right?

The port in the PLC is a 9 pin female com port?

Once I have the MPI adapter I just open the project and connect or what do I need to selects as PG/PC interface?

yes this a Adapter which should be use to connect the plc.

the 9pin connector is for the MPI Interface on the PLC, right.

in the PG/PC settings you should the find the Entry PCAdapter.mpi which you select.

in HWConfig double click on the plc so that the dialog from your screen 1 is displayed, here click on Propertis Button in the Interface section and checkk which baudrate is configured, the same baudrate then configure on the PC-Adapter.mpi in the PG/PC Settings

Do you have a Siemens Field PG? Then you already have the communication module build in the PG.

If you have a regular laptop, the i would suggest you to buy this:

I have a normal laptop with 3 vm-ware machines each with Simatic Managers but one with WinCC 7.0, one with WinCC 7.4 and one with WinCC 7.5 - so I am running the vm-ware machine that matches the version of WinCC on the HMI server.

Does the adapter I found look correct - and did I find the correct settings - I cannot really match 187 in baud rate?

But the blue Adapter in your screen is only a simple RS232 to US, this can't be used for MPI communication.

All settings you provide in the screen are not for PC-Adapter (the linked one from you)

so is not possible to configure the PG/PC Settings correctly because no PC-Adapter connected!

I will need to search a bit more to find the MPI converter I am almost sure we have.

If I end up having to buy the one I linked to - should I pick the isolated one or the multipurpose one and what is the difference?

none of them, both locks to much as a Chinese Fake Adapter.

Only buy from Siemens certified partners, never on amazon or ebay.
