How much minimum position accuracy can be measuered?

For a machine tool axis 0.0001 is usually enough i.e. 10/th Micron using temperature compensation for the laser. What do you need ? Pee

What I would like to know is with the connected measuring system & controller system how much minimum motionsystem can read & control. Please find attached here with example ofspindle where in minimum degree system can measured is calculated. Same like I would like to know about linear axis. But no where I could find the same. Pee El Sea Gold Member Joined: 1/19/2008 Last visit: 10/2/2024 Posts: 992 Rating: (64)	Hi, If we have a 2048 pulse 1 to 1 rotary encoder. Each pulse is a sine wave. If we can only recognise the top of each sine wave we only have a 2048 encoder. If we can recognise the top and bottom (180 degrees) of each sine wave we have 4096 pulses. If we can recognise 45 degree levels we have 8192 pulses. The 611 resolution standard is 128. So each pulse can be split into 128 increments. So from our 2048 pulse encoder we have 2048 sinewaves which we can split up into 128 levels. The number of pulses we can now recognise is 2048 * 128 = 262144. For a linear axis you need to know how far the measuring system moves in 1 pulse or sine wave. This is from your scale. Divide by 128 and you have the best resolution you can get. There may be other cards that do better than 128 Hope this helps a bit Pee

This is from your scale. Divide by 128 and you have the best resolution you can get.
