How to perform field economizer in DC converters SIMOREG ??? 

Please set P082 = 1. Field is switched together with line contactor. Along with this user can switch ON & OFF the blower motor of DC motor, which is additional energy saving.

 Blower Motor should normally be switched off after a time delay ( A few minutes ) to let the motor cool down completely . It is always achieved better by using a separate DO from PLC.

It is however a good idea to keep the field at 10% in Humid climate to keep the motor protected from Moisture.

We have 6RA70 drive in our slitter line.

Parameter P082=2

P257=0;

P258 = 10

Which means the field current will be Zero after a waiting period of 10 seconds after the drive is OFF.

My concern is that line start and stop frequency is very high (average 3 start and stops in a span of one hour) and the machine is 24 hours production machine. If we switch OFF the field so frequently the field winding and the motor health will deteriorate very soon.

Please advise if motor field should always be kept ON to avoid start and stop of inductive load of field winding.

It is a good practice to keep the field economy setting at 10% instead of Zero. It has the following advantages :

a) it avoids frequenting switching ON/Off of field

b) Motor remains warm ( Keeping out moisture ).

c) In most cases Blower can be switched off with a longer time delay ( Say 10 min ) ( at 10% field ) to save more energy if Drive is to remain off for longer durations without the motor overheating.
( This however must be checked with the Manufacturer before implementation )

There is no need to keep the field permanently on if switching frequency is only 3 starts/stops per hour.

 This 10% has no relation with Field Weakening current as this will be present when drive has no ON command. 

This can be set regardless of whether the motor is a Field Weakening type or not.

There is not fixed guideline for this . however the 10% value is a common practice and has served us well.
