Incremental Encoder - I want to use it for reading leangth of a pipe

Dear Pegaia sir,

I am using increamental encoder, model: E50S8-1024-3-T-24, which is having

3 outputs ie OUT A, OUT B and OUT Z

It gives 1024 pulses per revolution.

I want to use it for reading leangth of a pipe.

I used S7-1200 CPU 1214C DC/DC/DC V3.0 and software is TIA V11 SP2

I configured HSC1 and connected I0.0 to OUT A , I0.1 to OUT B and i0.3 to OUT Z

but after 1024 also, count goes on increasing when monitored in ID1000.

Please help, how i should i configure this encoder?

Hi,

My suggestions:

Don't using Z to reset (Ididn't seea reason to do it). The pipe length should be a multiple of encoder turn. Calculate it (how many turns *1024 + part of last turn = total pulses count value).

E.g You don't need to use interruption: read the count value at OB main, use comparators to find the position and after the cut, reset the counter by HSC_CNTRL block. However if it doesn't give the precision use interrupt OB to cut, and the HSC_CNTRL to reset it.
