information about IEC standard for Communication

Valli Posts: 262 Rating: (45)	Dear All, Iam facing a problem as we have set up the communication of S-7 400H PLC with our 3UF7 simocode device( used for motor protection and communication on profibus). Nowthe consultant ( international ) is asking wheather it follows IEC-870-5-103 or NOT. I am truly unware about this protcol and could get much information on internet also. so please help us !!@

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/14/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello Valli your consultant means IEC-60870-5-103 and your answer to him will have to be: "No it does NOT, the communciation between the PLC and Simocodes follows Profibus Standards, of which the most important ones are": IEC 61158/IEC 61784-1 for the communication protocol IEC 61784-5 and IEC 61918 for connectors IEC 60870-5 is the "main" standardand predomanitely used in Substations (DNP3 is very similar to it should you know DNP3), wheras the "103" is the additional so called"Companion standard for the informative interface of protection equipment" Google IEC 60870-5 and you shall find out more than you may care to know about this Standard. Ihope this helps
