Is my PLC CPU damaged?

Hi friends,

One of my customers reported that his S7-1500 (6ES7513-1AL00-0AB0 ) PLC was down and sent me photos. It shows the CPU ie 1513-1PN with blank LCD screen and no LEDs on (All LEDs on CPU are off),when power of 24V was correctly applied to the X80 terminal.

This was powered by a Load power PM 70W that also powered 2 Nos of IM-153-1PN. Both these IMs are working ok, but without the CPU running, their racks are showing errors. That is understandable. But it only shows that the CPU is the problem.

I had the CPU removed and test powered on a bench with 24V DC, It lies lifeless. The LCD screen is unlit and ALL the status LEDs are off. However the profinet connection LEDs are lit up. The only thing we checked was giving it power ie the power terminal connectors are OK>

I am left wondering what could be wrong. How can one determine if this CPU is damaged. 

How does one determine how the damage (if any) was caused?. This is the first time in my long career that I've seen a failure of this kind.

if you connect the CPU to 230VAC you get what you have. Do you really know what happens?

Is there a motor drive near the PLC?

I notice in the first posted image a RED wire in the loom for the PLC.

What does RED designate in your wiring scheme?

To me, it usually means AC voltage, at least in an industrial setting.

No Sir, No VFD in this panel. Only a S71500 and its remote IO racks ie. 2 x ET 200 S IO racks.

The red wire is 24V DC+, Black is 0V. Not 230V. The 24V DC is obtained from the PM 70W (3A) module.

Actually, this was running well since Feb 2016, until this happened. I havent gone to the site yet. The tests & photos are from customer's engineers.

They have no idea why the cpu fell silent on the 16th. January. I cannot determine if the attached CM 1241-Rs 422/485 is damaged as well so..I've ordered replacements for both.  Anything else comes to your mind? Please do suggest

Hmm, I thought the CM-1241 was for s7-1200 PLCs.
