Main Server Problem

chombane Experienced Member Joined: 2/28/2010 Last visit: 9/30/2024 Posts: 55 Rating: (0)	We have Client/Server system, two servers configured in redundancy with 6 clients. Every time that i start WinCC RT on the main server all the clients freeze. when i remove the terminal network cable, the clients work perfectly well through the standby server. Some clents which are suppose to connect as preferred server, do not switch back to it. What could be the problem? please help!

Are there any error messages displayed either when the RT is getting activated or after the activation in the alarm logging about time synchronisation problems or connectivity problems? 3. is the lmhosts.sam file on the clients containing the correct entries for the main server? It is possible that the freezing could be due to connectivity problems,at the network hardware level (cable breaks...) or due to mismatches in the windows network configuration settings ( computer name, IP addresses.......) It could also be a case where the installation on the main server may be corrupted and require a complete disaster recovery procedure ( reinstallation of windows and PCS7 OS ). Kindly revret wih any information regarding these queries or any other information which you might find relevant to the problem.

minhajie Posts: 96 Rating: (10)	Hi Chombane, I would suggest tocompile the entire server again, generate the server data again. Stop all the operator stations (OS) and assign the new server data to one of the operator station. Download the server and updated OS and restart both stations. It will be better if you test only server 1 and the update OS station then if it works update the other OSs and server 2. Better do it one by one so you know which station or how many station is causing the problem. It will be a good idea to run both the servers and only one updated OS to confirm it is not the server redundancy that is causing the problem. Hope this was helpful. regards, mk

What is the access path to the imhost.sam file? you can access the lmhosts.sam file along this path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc the messages configured are for reporting any possible errors that might come up during the RT . until they show up in the RT, there is no problem. again, as minhajie has suggested, regenerate the server data and transfer that all the clients wrt your main server. Client OS RT does not hangup generally, if there are some RT problems in the Servers. It will show an alarm saying that communication connection has not been established. the best possible step to be taken right now seems to be what minhajie has suggested. Also, it would be helpfull if you couold post the WinCC diagnose folder contents here

chombane Experienced Member Joined: 2/28/2010 Last visit: 9/30/2024 Posts: 55 Rating: (0)	Thankyou for quick response, I have been thinking about that, reloading the whole system, but, it has to be done when our cement plant is down or on shut down. I am thinking of downloading the entire server from our ES as an alternative. Yesterday I decided to remove an AntiVirus software which has been running on the server, things seemed to have improved a bit. Atleast I was able to see the stdby server from the main server's WinCC Explorer's status of client connections, but still no client has shifted to the main server despite it being online the whole night.

Yoga Shankar Posts: 288 Rating: (22)	dear chombane, in the PCS7 server client setup, once the stdby server has taken over the duties of the master ( i.e. clients have shifted to the stdby server), the fact that the previous master has come online once again makes no difference. the clinets will switch over to this system only when your stdby server becomes unavialable.

Hence, when one server is donw the all shift,but when the is brought back online, the clients configured to this server as the preferred server shift back this server, that is how our PCS7 project was configured.

ABN Posts: 212 Rating: (12)	hi you must check following and settings not correct must be repaired. 1. check time sync if not correct repair 2. as you said you have 6 clients. In PCS7, you cant keep servers in Graphics Runtime if you have more than 4 Clients 3. Go to LAN card properties and there you will find setting called " allow this device to power off to save power". please deslect the settings 4. as yogashankar said about "host" and "local host" settings.if you have done the settings correct you must be able to ping the machines via PC name and not with IP address. you can check it via Run and type <PC name> cmd prompts open and see if it works. Post your comments with this and then may be we can go ahead with further analysis
