My laptop is not a Siemens PG/PC. It works ok butnot great -because of the way the card slides into the slot.

But after you can't to use that card in Siemens CPU. Verry expencive card for a camera, work with card only in CPU or with PG, mistakes are made easy when working in windows and no option to undo Firmware upgrades can be done with windows and a cardreader but be verry carefull and think twice before clicking that mouse. I feared(beacause of your replies)but i want to upgrade my cpu(1212c) firmware version by personal laptab and it's memory reader slot what should I do ? pleaseguide me step by step (I have a big memory for my camera and i don't want any more!)

It depends of the type of CPU:http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/41886031/133100 Select type of CPU which is corresponding to real one and follow instructions.
