Modifications to existing Simatic 545 Profibus-DP Installation

CGaudet Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I need to add a 3rd party device to an existing Profibus-DP installation. The master in this installation is a Simatic 545, and it communicates with (2) MP370's, (1) MP 270, and (2) 505-6870 RBC's. Currently, at the beginning of the Ladder Logic running on the 545, there are a sequence of XSUB blocks called when the PLC switches into run mode from program mode. It appears as though these functions dictate which data should be shared with the MP270/370's. My question is, if I create a new binary in COM Profibus (with the new 3rd party device added) , merge it with the existing ladder logic, and upload it to the 545, am I at risk of deleting / over-writing these external functions that are called by the XSUB blocks? Also, is it possible to retrieve these functions from PLC memory to back them up on a laptop? Thanks (Update - I just found some info on this - the XSUBs are from :"505 XSUB Driver to Support COROS HMI Protool Rel 5.2x")

Refer to the SIMATIC 545/555/575 Programming Reference Manual, 505-8204-2. http://support.automation.siemens.com/US/view/en/17514825The TISOFT Manual, TS505-8101-7 describes the aux functions necessary to load/save and convert your XSUB programs. The XSUB is in binary format so unless you have the source it won’t do much good to save it. Now that I have that information, I have found an answer to another question - why my ladder logic is using XSUB1,XSUB4,XSUB5 instead of XSUB1,XSUB2,XSUB3. The original programmer used HMI.REC instead of FAP.REC as a driver.

billwest Posts: 510 Rating: (119)	I forgot to say that the Memory in the 545 for the I/O configuration is separate from the program memory. Merging the New Profibus node will not overwrite the program memory. billwest

CGaudet Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thanks again Bill, I have one more question: Reviewing the ladder logic already in place, I see that two of my HMIs(I assume the two MP370's) use 2 sets of XSUB4,XSUB5 function calls, and the third HMI (assumed to be the MP270) uses only one set. Also, the XSUB4s in use have 18 arguements (vs 13 for XSUB2) I assume that the difference is the fact that the driver I am using is HMI.REC. Do you recall ever seeing specific instructions for the HMI.REC driver that might explain the differences?

CGaudet Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thanks again for the advice Bill, I got the modifications to my network up and running last week with very few problems. The Red Lion DSPSX Datastation that I added is able to send and receive data to the Siemens 545, and I didn't end up having to do anything with the HMI.REC file.

The following excerpt is from the readme.txt file that came with HMI.rec: Using the HMI XSUBs: Many users will find that they only use the XSUB1, XSUB2, XSUB3, XSUB4, and XSUB5 with no other XSUBs. These users can load the HMI.rec file directly. In TISOFT, for example, you would use AUX40 to convert S-records and then AUX43 to load U-memory to accomplish this. If you have this PROBLEM: If, for example, you load HMI.rec into your PLC using TISOFT (AUX40 and AUX43) and then load your own XSUB, loading your XSUB on top of the HMI XSUB clobbers it. If on the other hand you first load your XSUB into your PLC and then load HMI.rec, then you will write over your XSUB. Here is a SOLUTION: The object files are available so that you can use XSUB1, XSUB2, XSUB3, XSUB4, and XSUB5 while using some XSUBs of your own. You will need to link in object files. To do this, you will need to add your XSUB entry points to header.src.

What I don't remember seeing in it was any explanation of what data to load into the 18 arguements that XSUB4 requires. I can kind of infer what is required based on the code that I have that works, but I have no idea how I would have implemented it on my own (luckily, I don't need to, since it does work). Still, magical black boxes do make me nervous at times :)
