Moxa 5210: Communicate the scanned data to 27-1200 PLC

Hello, we have a moxa 5210 to which a hand held scanner is plugged, we want to communication the scanned data to 27-1200 PLC, but we are unable to get the data, we can establish the connection using TCON.

MOXA is server and PLC is client.

we are using TCP socket connection.

Has somebody done this before?

We scan a QRcode and we see on moxa webserver that the characers are being read, but we dont get them into PLC.

it must work without problems from my experience. All is about Moxa cfg so question is what you did with cfg inside Moxa. I expect you have also TRCV block in your code logically for incomming data from scanner. If yes, you need have AdHoc system of receive enabled because Scanner can send probably different lengts of data, correct? You can have of course TRCV block enbaled/executed continuesly, simply you listen on Port for data as Client. I forget one thing, you not specify via which serial specification have connection - RS232 or RS485/422, this need to be also defined and correctly set on mMoxa. Be carefully with different pins on Moxa serial ports side probably, this can be different to standards so check pins carefully.

The configuration of the system is as follows:

PLC:

- Client

- using TCON FB

- TRCV to receive incoming data, enabled all the time waiting for data packet.

Moxa:

- Operating mode: TCP Server.

We can establish the connection between PLC and Moxa device, but we just dont receive anything from  Scanner. Using Moxa monitoring function, we can see that the scanner is sending the data to the Moxa module but it doesnt reach PLC, we are scaning 67 bytes 2D code and we get the 67 byte count on Moxa monitoring function, but on PLC we do not get anything.

I saw that when you seelct TCP server mode, a parameter field "Command port" appears, do we need to do something with that one from PLC?

I saw on the manual that if you use a computer you need to install a library to work with that command port.

Do you have any other advice?

I think that there you can have:

1. local Port (your connection Port value).

2. command port (you can set there some port not occupied f.ex. 700).

3. max connection, here is 1 enough for you.

4. TCP Alive check, here set soem time like 7 min.

On next options you can have 0 and Do nothing.

This cfg worked for me without problems if I good remember. I had set also on Serial some parameters depended to serial side of converter. Apply cfg and restart Moxa, that's all and must working. Again, attach not PLC but f.ex. Hercules app (check web) what can connect to Moxa as Client and check that functionality if data will be received to app buffer. I expect some problems on your PLC cfg probably. Hercules app can this idea confirm. I recommend turn off Moxa prior do tests with Hercules to have not connected Client as PLC for sure.

On your PLC side I expect problem with not configured AdHoc mode probably but check with that Hercules PC SW for first to be sure Moxa is ok.

hehe did again check my box and found one old Moxa but 5130 with RS485, did quick cfg via my serial converter to RS232 (NTB) and can confirm that simulate like your Reader on serial side, my TCP Client app received data perferctly. My mentioned cfg is as I've sugested, with unused now command port 700 f.ex. but this is unused generally.

I was missing the adHoc option, I tho, as in the help file says, that with a len := 0 then is an adhoc system but actually also the adhoc input parameter has to be set to true, we set it to true and started to receive some data.

yes but also if you'll not have configured AdHoc and your LEN will be correspond with receive LEN, you'll have also data.
