Multiple Motor control by a single drive

Alendi Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi Everyone I'm triyng to control 6 identical pumps with a single drive, is possible, I saw other threads here, the problem is: 1- Some of the pumps do not start all the times (I've used contactors within drive and pumps, I don't know if drive will be damaged if some times start 1, 3 or all 6 pumps, the operation is starting the needed contactor with external set of Sensors, wait one second and start the drive to control ramp and RPM), all pumps are 0.75 HP 3Ph 220VCA 2- Is possible control drive using MODBUS from a Master K120S PLC? 3- What is preferable, single drive or one drive each pump? I mean to contro it from PLC. Thanks

Alendi Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	HI Piscean I'll control 6 pumps in order to get multiple speed filling process, example, total filling time is 15 sec. Then the first 3 sec. The rpm will go from 0 to 1850, after 3 sec to 8 sec the speed keep full, then after 9 sec to 15sec the speed will down to 0, all this to get filling without waste. Yes, I'll use one drive to control all six motors, but the problem is that I don't know if use one drive, when pumps work only one or four or any number because some times not bottle present to fill, damage the drive. Thanks

If you have no other choice, make sure Contactor operates only when drive stops firing of IGBT. 2 - First mention which drive you are using. Now a days almost all drives are having that facility but needs to be checked before 3 - If you ask me, i will suggest you to buy 6 drives for 6 motors - your motors are of low rating so drives will be much cheaper Regards, Devesh Vithani

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi As long as the inverter is rated to drive all six motors you should be OK. as Vithani says do not switch in drive contactors on a live inverter. Also each motor will require it's own protection. Pee
