Need Help (Siemens S5)

Dear Sirs,

I hope everyone is feeling good, Someone please help me and remove my confusion, I need to take back-up of Logic/Program of one of old siemens plc installed at plant back in 1995, whose description is given below:

Specs:

Power Supply Module: Simatic S5-100U, PS-930 (6ES5 930-8MD11)

Central Processing Unit: Simatic S5-100U, CPU-100 (6ES5 100-8MA02)

Digital Input Module: 8xDC, 24V, Qty:04 (6ES5 421-8MA12)

Digital Output Module: 8xDC, 0.5A, Qty: 04 (6ES5 421-8MA11)

Questions:

Q1- Can i connect download/modify/upload above plc with Step-7 V5.5 ? 

Q2- Also need to maintain inventory so above cards still available or obsolete ? if not then which one would be compatible ? 

Q3- Is this possible to connect this PLC with USB to Serial Communication Cable ? (USB=PC, Serial on PLC CPU-100)

Q4: What is purpose of EEPROM installed on front of Plc CPU ? 

Q5: Usually we changed batteries of other PLC's, but for more than 20 years we haven't changed its battery ? Do I need to changed it ?

Q6: Do i need to override the other securities (F&GS, CO2 etc) associated with it OR i can take back-up while running it ? i-e like in GCs we halt the program then we take back-ups. 

I am completely novice in automation industry so any help would be much appreciated.

No, you can not use Step 7 v5.5, you need Step 5,

There is a cable USB to connect to S5 PLC's, but it is not from Siemens, but another manufacturer.

Thank you for reply, would you please assist me, is this possible to connect any 15-pin DB (Serial) to PLC S5 or we need special adapter ?
