Ntp at S7

Enable time services on your Win11 PC, set a static IP on that Win11 PC, and then point your time service update via NTP to that Win11's static IP.

Be sure and on the win11 PC to configure the windows firewall to allow NTP traffic from whatever network adapter is connected to the PLC.

I recommend using 2 network adapters and not exposing your s7-1200 to the business network, and instead having the win11 PC connected to the business network (and the upstream NTP server), and the 2nd LAN adapter connected to the controls network / PLC.

By keeping them separate, you protect your PLC.

Either that, or insert a Scalance (or similar) managed switch to help reduce unnecessary network traffic from reaching the PLC.  Then have the switch get NTP time from wherever you like, and the PLC get time from the switch.

No, it's not a private network.

The S7 is in the same network as a Win 11 pc.

Glad you have a working solution.  You will want to keep track of any NTP errors in the diagnostics buffer (accessible using OB82, Diag Error Interrupt OB).  You can detect incoming error related to NTP server unavailable (someone unplugged network, or unplugged power cable perhaps), and then alert people operating the system controlled by the PLC.

Hi,

I have followed your recomments with using a second LAN adadter.

this is connected to a managed Ubiquiti Unifi switch and from that point setup the NTP server.

works like charm......
