PB Communication from Atlas Copco Compressor via MK5 and CPU-400

I don't know if you do correct steps. Why you don't do any tests? It is only recommended to do tests and check I/O areas as documentation says. This isn't general problematic used same system everytime, it is to device specific. One important advice, be careful to work with term WORD address 1 in areas, WORD has occupy 2 bytes and generally is expected start from even address value compared to BYTE. Your description here can put some problem to understand your addresses correctly.

I didn't do any tests because at the moment I don't have the gateway or the PLC to carry out the tests...from what you have pointed about the term WORD, I´m aware of the area it occupies. 

I´ll try to simulate what I have already developed here, and I´ll ask you for some more info about, If that´s ok to you!

hmmmm if you don't have still gateway then it is waste of time to ask about steps here, as I said you need do real tests. As you said with simulation I expect you set some values to expected areas about data received from CAN side and check your side process with simulated data, this is ok and expected till HW isn't presented. Annoying me? Don't worry, no reason to my side, it's your prj and no my time. No problem with next help of course.

It works ok but the CAN communication logic is horrible. Other compressors (i.e. KAESER) have proprietary PB or PN interfaces which is way easier to handle.

this isn't only CAN bus, they have compressors also with PN or PB without problems, all depends to actual type of device. Therefore is there some Gateway to better bypass hard work with CAN bus and have to do only control system programming - all managed via control byte/other mechanism, that Gateway then solves internally. This is simply best option in this case to my opinion. You need to do tests and have good experience with some similar networks previously.

 How did you find the mapped addresses?

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear! See attached the address mapping of digital inputs. As shown in the picture, for each digital input, a defined register is used.

As I have never worked with this gateway before, I would like to know how to process these data records, all variables uses B2B3 (bytes 2 and 3) as memory area. How to deal with the same memory area at same time for different requisitions?

I can only guess as documentation shows (what is available to me via web Online access). You need set correct Header byte as is described due your settings and request type, correct node ID, set 500 value to B2 and B3 but I don't know if 500 is correct, this value you need to know. Your description about your skills is very bad, really I don't know if you ask how to set 500 value to that 2 bytes or not due your not experience, I don't know. That 500 value is 01F4 so set 01 to B2 and F4 to B3 byte. You have looks like that requested manual from that document where all registers are described, therefore that 500 value you have, correct? I don't have this device for tests, I can only look at that 24 page manual and thats all, I don't have so much possibilities as you have.

 

Atlas Copco has to provide you this address mapping for each individual compressor / dryer / etc..  connected to the Atlas Copco CAN network. 

They also have to provide you with a list of which CAN-bus address corresponds with which compressor / dryer / ...
