I do suggest you look more closely at the web links that Kal.A provided. Both are good ideas. Consider rating his post positively. Ask follow up questions if you need to. TIP: For link #2 .. Instead of the PWM you will have your sensor.

Ok so back to your question, The first link is valid the second one is not. There are difference view or preference( See the first link) but in general to achieve the best accuracy you will need to setup the input to generate a hardware interrupt on rising or falling edge, depending on you application, and in the interrupt you use instruction to copy the start time and then the end time.

For @rachid10 the PWM in example 3 is replaced by the sensor signal. The extended HSC instructions do provide to measure the pulse period of an input. @rachid10 can study the user manual for complete informations. Sanity and good health to you.
