hi Guest, there are many differences. the S7-200 are small plc´s to controll small processes with basic functions. Programming editor is Step7 Micro/Win. The S7-200 series is phasing out. For new applications, Siemens recommend using the successor system SIMATIC S7-1200. For S7-1200 you need Step 7 TIA Portal Basic S7-300 and S7-400 are advanced controller. They are already in sale, but I think it is no secret, that it will be phasing out in a few years. S7-300/400 can be projected with Step7 5.5 and TIA Professional.
