problem "print job is being executed", but nothing is happening

Klusser Advanced Member Joined: 3/30/2010 Last visit: 10/23/2024 Posts: 43 Rating: (2)	Hi college WinCC users/developers When I want to print my print job to a file (.emf) this works fine, but after enable the PDF option* the printjob will "hang" Only a complete restart will end this printjob. I cannot find any background processing of this printjob. When I try againto print or preview of this printjob the error message is: "The print job is being executed".But really nothing is happening. This problem is previously mentioned in this forum but never solved. Please help (I use WinCC V7, and have pdfcreator from pdfforge.org installed and set to default. The option"print output to printer: PDFCreator" is working fine, but is not my wish becauseI cannot change the file prefix each printjob automatic)

Bizur Posts: 1530 Rating: (59)	Hello Klusser, I'm also working with WinCC V7, and I tried to reproduce your problem by using the "ReportOnlineTrendControl-Curves-CP" print job. I sent my job to the Bullzip PDF- Creator. In my project everything was working fine. May be it happens only if you have got a special constellation. Which print job did you use for printing a pdf-file? If I see you other point right, it would be a good thing for you, if you couldchange the prefix of your file automatically every time you start the print job in runtime. I think this can only be solved via ODK (Open Development Kit). There you first may set together the wished file name (e. g. including date) and then start the print job. Best regards Bizur

The disadvantage isthe fixed filename which is starting with date-time. If someone have a solution for this problem, let me know. Kind regards Vincent

"The print job is being executed" I struggled for some time and finally i got solution. Problem solved by reassigning the layout file (*.RPL) to print job. Surprised but working.

There are a set of RPL files in the runtime application, and if one is missing/corrupt then it will cause the print job is being executed message to occur. The reason is that the runtime will first generate a report using a system defined RPL file. This report is then sent to the printer. If the report can't be generated then the print job hangs and displays the error message. The RPL files can be missing due to a compile bug, or an issue in copying the runtime application. There should be a significant number of RPL files starting with @... which are system generated for the toolbar print buttons. It is advised to recompile and/or reinstall the application to fix it. You may try manually adding the RPL file, but this is likely to fail miserably. The application seems to have issues with this, and your print job will execute, but not actually print. The second issue is a set of print jobs with the same name, which will cause the printer to get stuck. This is a printer driver problem which normally can be cleared by a restart. This is a common issue with printer drivers. The duplicate print job doesn't occur if you use the time and date in the print job name. If you use the same name for all prints, then its possible to request a second print job before the first is completed. This can be cleared from the printer (devices and printers, open the printer queue)
