Process Object CPU 410

Q: We have a redundant CPU 410 (6ES7 410-5HX08-0AB0) in our plant with 1600 Process Object Licensed. Unfortunately, I was able to use them all and now I don't know what will happened if I created a new logic that will use a new process object? does It will stop the CPU?

Solution: If the current program contains fewer process objects than the previously downloaded project, the download operation automatically increases the number of available process object licenses. If not, enough licenses are available the license violation will generate a corresponding message that must be acknowledged. Now you may either terminate the download or continue it despite this message. The number of licenses that are required but unavailable will be recorded as a shortage. If you have purchased additional licenses, these missing licenses are included and registered in the ALM at the next download.

Q: Furthermore, can someone help me If I can still extend this license further? If yes how? if know kindly suggest how can I resolve this issue.

Solution: Prerequisites for an online upgrade

• SIMATIC PCS 7 V8.1 or higher
• CPU 410-5H firmware V8.1 or higher
• The CPU 410-5H is configured with firmware V8.1 or higher in the HW Config
• The SEC of the CPU 410-5H has the product version 2 or higher

First, you must connect to the CPU. Select the menu command "Edit > Connect target system > Connect/disconnect AS 410".

Pleas bear mark the CPU410 has two license types. One are the process objects as countable objects in ALM. These are reducted and loaded to the CPU. When you do not have enough, downloading can proceed but with a warning, when you delete some PO, those are added to the license in ALM.

On the other hand, the CPU410 is a scalable CPU. The CPU is the most powerful, but you need to scale it according to your needs by using PO loaded to the SEC. You can buy the CPU with 1600 PO, but you can increase it with 100, 500, 1000, 1600 PO. You can also order 2000+ meaning the amount PO is unlimited (but watch out that your program does not exceed its limits).

If your PO on the SEC card is insufficient, downloading is rejected! You need to perform an online upgrade of the PO view the already described link/procedure.

Correct, via PCS7 license information you can see the necessary information. The limit 1600 PO is indeed the "hardware limit". If you exceed this, you need to upgrade the SEC via the online procedure. Loaded to CPU means the number of process objects. In the bottom of the screen you can see the available AS RT PO. Those are the countable PO in ALM license of the ES station. If you do not have enough, you will get a warning.

Where can I find the PO count of SEC? When I check the Availble PO I used simatic manager then option then PCS7 License information. There I see a limit of 1600 PO and I used up 863 PO. Is this the info for the SEC?

 If you want to extend the limit of 1600PO, you need to do online upgrade of the SEC. And as you mentioned, you will need to extend the limit on both CPU if operating in a redundant environment.

In order to upgrade, you will need to use ALM and create a support request at the Siemens Online Support site. Everything is listed in chapter 2.6 in the V9.0 manual in the link Techno has published earlier.

In short:

1. Buy the expansion packs

2. In ALM connect the CPU410 station

3. Send PO expansion pack to connected CPU410 and an activation file is generated

4. Send the activation file via support request

5. Wait (max 1day)

6. A release file is sent from SR and you need to transfer it to the connected CPU410

The PCS7 version we are using is 8.2 and the firmware of our CPU 410-5h is 8.1. How can I check the SEC version of my CPU? 

Furthermore, In my case do I have to do online upgrading? Since we have redundant AS I have to purchase 4 x500 PO in order to have 2600 PO on both CPU and have unlimited PO? Does Online upgrading can be done using ALM or Simatic manager? Is there a change the the exixting PO on my CPU get corrupted if I made a mistake on upgrading it.

Kindly let me know because I have not done any upgrades of PO that is why Im worry about.

Yes, on the bottom there are two counts: Available license and Currently still available. Currently still available is the amount of AS RT PO you have left. 

When you buy more PO and you exceed 2600, this will count as unlimited.

I see so this is the hardware limit. I also check using simatic manager then check the module information online of the CPU and there is the TAB for PO. I seen the limit 1600 and the firmware version is 2. For the RT AS PO is the information at the bottom of the PCS7 license information which is 12000?

In my case I have to purchase 4 x500 PO and upgarde it to both CPU to have a total of 2600 PO and it will be unlimited right? Where can I find the part number for it? The upgrade can be done using ALM and in case I made a mistake it will not stop my CPU?
