Hello Friends We are presently in an enviornment in which Both Profibus and Profinet networks are in wide use. Users are often confused between the two. With this Post, I am trying to consolidate some of the information available in Siemens Support as well as other Websites regarding Profibus and Profinet. Here are a few links : 1. PROFIBUS ( Wikipedia) 2. PROFINET ( Wikipedia ) 3. PROFIBUS + PROFINET - Strategic Overview - A White Paper 4. Introduction to PROFIBUS and PROFINET ( profibus.com ) ( Pl See attachment below if link does not work ) 5. SIMATIC PROFINET System Description 6. From PROFIBUS DP to PROFINET IO and From PROFIBUS to PROFINET 7. Comparison of the terms of PROFIBUS and PROFINET I hope that these documents will help users to understand both types of networks and selecting the right network for their requirements Cheers Navnag AttachmentIntroduction_to_PROFIBUS_&_PROFINET.pdf (760 Downloads) |

Hello Friends Here is another nice document I stumbled upon regarding Profibus & Profinet. ( Pl see attachment ) Here is another interesting take on : Profibus Vs Profinet. Although, I must admit that I do not agree fully with all the points made in this article. Call me old fashioned, but I am still a fan of profibus - for communication in Field area, whileI have no issues in using profinet for communication within control rooms.
