Hello krishnam raju; The physical layer of Profibus-DP is RS-485, for Profibus-PA it is MBP (Manchester-coded, Bus Powered). See the techniaca;l description available from Profibus.com: http://www.profibus.com/nc/download/technical-descriptions-books/downloads/profibus-technology-and-application-system-description/display/These are not compatible, so you must have a gateway between the 2 networks. You must use a DP/PA coupler to connect a PA slave to a DP network. Siemens DP/PA couplers bring down the DP network speed to 45,45 kBaud (for all slaves on the DP bus; you would need a DP/PA link to operate at 12 MB on the DP side). P&F DP/PA couplers bring the DP network down to 93,5 kB. But in the following discussion our friend fritz present a new solution from Procentec that allows the DP network to operate at 1,5 MB: DP/PA Coupler and DP/PA Link Since you need couplers for your application, choose based on price, availability and usefulness. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
