The special types of communication features of a Profibus device are defined in the form of an electronic device data sheet (device master data file, GSD file).

For this purpose, Siemens PROFIBUS provides GSD files for SIMATIC.

The differences to the GSDML are briefly explained:

A GSD file describes the properties and capabilities of a PROFIBUS device, a GSDML file describes the properties and capabilities of a PROFINET device.
