Proper Profibus Connector Terminating Resistor Settings on Bus Ring Topology

Please see attached file for your reference... We have already tried the two available options (turning on and off the terminating resistor of the profibus connector), still the network works properly. It seems that it has no difference whether you turn on or turn off the terminating resistor of the Profibus connector on this particular case. Hope you can help me with this.. It seems that it has no difference whether you turn on or turn off the terminating resistor of the Profibus connector on this particular case. The normal answer you got from Umencho and Playerslight, that the ends of the Profibus Connectors should be ON If your Remote I/O panels are close, then no problem . But if the distance is more and you keep it OFF , then it will affect the Remote I/O Panels. There will be communication problem like Station Failure of DP System, then it will come back after sometime. Again it will fail. Like that. I also faced the problem like this.

playerslight Posts: 1064 Rating: (72)	As Shar replied you could end up with communicvation errors and alot of haedache trying to trace them down best option is to turn them on wether it works on or off .If they should be on then turn them on

Thanks and best regards, lordgalen Hi, The terminating resister in a Profibus Network is just to terminate the communication to the next level (next node). As shown in your ring layout, you are trying to Switch On/ Off the terminating resister in the last node, so it won't normally affect your existing network if your profibus length is less.
