is it possible to estabilish a redundant communication between an IPC 477D (with WinCC RT Advanced) and a S7-400H PLC (412-5H) in order that, in case of a failure of one of the CPUs, the HMI still gathers data from the other CPU?

In brief YES you can.

WinCC RT advanced!

You mean WinCC TIA?!

If this is the case then you can have a look on 

Connecting SIMATIC HMI Panels with SIMATIC S7-400H (WinCC V13 and STEP 7 V5.5)

If you have just WinCC loaded to your IPC then you can,

1- Manage connection switching by some scripts (I remember there was a ready made wizard in WinCC but I can't remember the name). 

You will have a switching time over 5 seconds.

2- Create a fault-tolerant connection between WinCC(PC) and the H-station.

You can follow the same procedures as per this link. You will just replace the user application with WinCC application.

You will also need a SOFTNET REDCONNECT license.

In this case switching over will be bumpless.
