replacing CP

Jijo Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Dear All, We ae facing frequent communication failure in our system comprisisng of seven S7400 CPUs,profinet,Ind ethernet etc.After investigation we decided to change one doubtful CP.But I like to know whether any precaution to be taken before doing that?I have application softwre back up and hardware config back up.Is it enough?What is MAC number/address and its significance?After changing CP is it required to download app software/hardware config?Can any of u pls explain a little bit? J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hi Jijo, well, I would say it really depends on the protocols you use for communication. If you "only" run S7 Connections, TCP Connections, ISO on TCP Connections or UDP Connections you do not have to do anything. This is due to the fact that here only IP Addresses are being used. Than you do not have to care about the CP’s MAC because the IP is the important Address and the MAC Address is than connected to the IP and not vice versa. If you run ISO Transport Connections this is a different story, because than you have to configure the MAC Address and in some cases the download of the HW Config and Netpro might be necessary. So if you do not use ISO Transport Connections... you do not have to do anything... just check that you selected the function that the configuration of the CP is stored on the CPU... then everything is fine.
