S120 torque control (with STARTER)

Matthias-P Member Joined: 1/31/2011 Last visit: 4/27/2011 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hello, I want to use SINAMICS S120 (and the STARTER software) to control a rotary servo motor in speed control mode as well as intorque control. While speed control works well, I didn't manage to apply torque control. Even if I use the configuration "torque control", the control panel does not allow to set a torque value. I have read in the forum, that the STARTER software does not support such a direct torque control, but that it can be realized by using speed control and adjusting the torque limits (see /tf/WW/en/Posts/46171). But I'm a beginner and so this explanation is not sufficient for me...:-(Can anyone explain in simple words the steps needed to realize torque control? Thanks in advance!

To reach torque controlled behaviour, you need to "override" your speed controller, and limit its torque output. This means, you have to give a speed setpoint different from the speed you will reach during running, e.g. if you run in positive direction and you want a positive torque, you need to give the motor a higher speed setpoint (e.g. +5%) and so the motor wants to accelerate. Due to the upper torque limit, which you need to set to the required torque setpoint, the speed controller output would be limited to your torque setpoint and so your motor runs with the required torque. If you want the motor to brake, you have to give a lower speed setpoint and adjust the lower torque limit to you required torque.
