S5 115U I/O re-use in S7

Now we want to revamping this plc using an existant S7 , but we want use the old S5 I/O because disconnet all cable is a big work and request more time . Exist an interface or a system for realize this idea ? Thank you in advance.

Various solutions : 1 - Keep the modules : In this case you will have to use profibus DP to connect to the S5 PLC rack BUT you need to check the rack ( not all rack can be used) you need a 308C ,Its not that easy . 2- Keep the connectors : In this case you everything will be S7 ( I would advice S7-400) BUT you need special connectors from either Siemens or Phoenix .To re-use the connector on a 115U you need two slots ( because connector is so wide) and you will not be able to see the LED on the card ( at least if you are using the Phoenix connector ,don't know about the siemens ones) I would go for option 2 And then there is the software. You can keep the modules in an expansion rack using the following

Type of expansion	Central unit		Expansion unit

Another way is to use change the modules but still use the front connectors with S7 cards. This link below has more info.

manferreira Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Yes its possible, i had that problem in my plant and siemens tecnicians change the rack from old cpu S5 by another one that can comunicate with S7 and we use all the input and output cards from S5. Rui
