S7-1200 - Simatic SD card - format - problem

AutoGen_7233137 Member Joined: 11/13/2019 Last visit: 3/7/2023 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hello guys, I want to please you for help with my issue with formating standard SD cards by S7-1215 DC/DC/DC and TIA Portal V15.1 I have 3pcs of SD cards from old machines: 6ES7954-8LC03-0AA0 6ES7954-8LE02-0AA0 6ES7954-8LC02-0AA0 Every SD card consists old project in TIA portal (V13.1 etc). I want to format each of this SD cards by using PLC S7-1215, but I have problem, that I cannot chose "Format memory card" in online&diag>functions. This option disappears every time, when I put SD card into PLC. Also, direct command in project>card reader/USB memory > format memory card is inactive(grey). Ofcourse, I see everything on SD cards (project blocks, fce, data block etc.)... but I cannot format SD card. Please, have you got any tips how to solve it? Thanks a lot

Caution: Do not format the SD card or delete protected operating system files (which should be invisible in the default Windows settings). Kind regards Stefan

Hi,

there is also a description for this in the manual.

SIMATIC S7 S7-1200 Programmable controller

"If you are reusing a SIMATIC memory card that contains a user program, data logs, recipes, or a firmware update, you must delete the files before reusing the card.

Use Windows File Explorer to display the contents of the memory card and delete the "S7_JOB.S7S" file and also delete any existing folders (such as "SIMATIC.S7S","FWUPDATE.S7S", "DataLogs", and "Recipes").

Notice

Do NOT delete the hidden files "LOG" and "crdinfo.bin" from the memory card.

The "__LOG__" and "crdinfo.bin" files are required for the memory card. If you delete these files, you cannot use the memory card with the CPU.
