How do we get V4 firmware for S7-1200 CPU's ? |

V4 firmware is only available on new 1200 PLCs. Older CPUs cannot be upgraded. Regards, billwest |

So what do we get with V4 firmware that we don't have in V3 ? |

The details for FW V4 were retrieved from this link: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/69065203 Hereis an excerpt: Withthe new firmware version 4.0 all Simatic S7-1200-CPUs can also be run as Profinet iDevice, in addition to the already available operation as Profinet controller. The new firmware now also offers a trace functionality in real-time for the compact controllers Simatic S7-1200 for application diagnostics and debugging. Until now the trace functionality was only available with the more powerful control systems. A further new feature of firmware version 4.0 is the recipe management that has been implemented on the CPU, which provides the user with recipe data as .csv-file. The access protection against unauthorized project changes has also been enhanced. There are now four security access levels for the CPU access. Updating of already delivered previous generation Simatic S7-1200 controllers (CPU 1211C, CPU 1212C, CPU 1214C and CPU 1215C) to the CPU firmware 4.0 is not possible. |
