Setting up the slots in transfer areas?

I tried setting it up the way it is in step 7 starting at slot 4, but recieved errors on compile. I then started my telegrams at the first slot and compiled with no error but no communication when hardware configuration is loaded. This was an attempted migration from step 7 into tia 15.1. Also the free telegrams were already predefined and I didn't want to change all that code, so I used universal modules with axis disconnects between each axis. Firmware versions matched, so I am not sure what the issue was. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Split from Need help to add CU320-2 DP on add device.

Does it have 17 slots filled with things? You do not require the slot fillers for slots without I/O telegram data. Just delete those since are (typically) not required. That does not show up on the step 7 provided configuration. How many control units do you have? 1 or 4? If you have 4 CUs, you need 4 S120 devices in TIA Portal, each with their own I/O telegram interface. If the Simatic Mgr HW Config put them all into a single PB configuration, you do not do that in TIA Portal (at least, I have not done it). If the CU for the S120 controls all 4 motor modules, then there will be 1 drive in the configuration. If there is 1 PB address, one slave PB device. If there are 4 PB addresses, 4 slave PB devices. You can test the theory by removing everything after Q260..263 and just talk to the first slave device. Ztay8514 I was just working on getting that for comparison. Slave 1 is diagnostic address 2043 and matches the address in step 7 hardware. After further examination I noticed those particular addresses did not match the other 3 slaves. Not sure if that is a problem as I have never had to set that address as it usually works as assigned by the program. Attachment Screenshot (7).png (106 Downloads)

Apparently the first 3 slots of the telegram area are reserved for diagnostics. All I did to fix this problem was insert a universal module, defined as an empty slot, in the first 3 slots. Then the user data (PZD) starts at slot 4. But you have to have those first 3 slots occupied or else you get errors on compile. I also changed the telegram types to Siemens standard telegram in the slots, instead of using universal modules. Not sure if that was necessary, but I had no problem with that considering the drives are set up for free telegrams. If anyone needs pics or the slot configurations, I will happily provide them.
