Showing a String from an Array on the HMI (only ###)

Luiz Bitencourt Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi everybody, I'm trying to display a string from an array on a HMI (KTP400 Basic PN). The sitiuation is that I have some data on a PLC's DB, and some of them are Arrays of Strings. I can't see these data on the HMI, only ##### appears. I think this occurr only with the "Array of String" type. To put the data on the HMI screen I've selected all the itens of the array that I wanted to show on the HMI and moved to the HMI screen. The connection is ok, I can see another data from the PLC (Simatic S7-1200). Thanks for any help. Tell me if you need more information!

I use array of string[20] and my ktp600 basic pn displays the string text just fine. You have to be very particular about selecting the exact plc tag from the db, then the tag, then the array element from within the hmi project the first time you use a tag. After that, you can just use the hmi tag. Are the other tags on the screen working? If you make the text field huge, does it suddenly display the value properly? Try just doing one field, and try limiting the size of the string like above where I declare string[20]. It can and complicate certain parts of your plc project but saves quite a bit of memory, plus it might just fix the problem you are having. I tried the default string length, but it did not work right for my application.

Have you initialized them all to be the empty string or some other known string value? If you look at the watch table, what is the longest string in number of characters? Maybe I missed it on your original post, but maybe the KTP400 is not capable ofdisplaying strings like that. I upgraded my display to KTP600 and it works as your configuration is current set. You can test the theory by changing your device (temporary) to KTP600, run it on your computer, and see if the string data appears.

Make the field very wide for simulation and testing and put in large characters, like W, that take up a lot of room to set the field width so it will fit. It also sounds like you are using V11. Do you have update 5 installed for Portal/WinCC V11 SP2?

I use V11 SP2 Update 5 with a basic panel (KTP600 PN) and display many string fields within a multi-dimensional array. In my case, my data structure: hmi_strings_array : array of [0..2,0..15] of string[10] I then point each of the screen fields to the precise array element. Maybe a screenshot of the array definition in your DB, and the winCC configuration for the plc db tag, and the field property where it is used on the screen?
