Hello. What is the aim of your question? Why are you fixed on the idea of an operating system? Step7 (TIA Portal) software provides the design environment for the controllers. The user creates application code, much like you would use Python to create an application for a PC. There is no need to create an operating system for the S7-1200 / S7-1500 to be able to use it. Feel welcome to share some more clarity on what you are trying to do.

Feel welcome to share some more clarity on what you are trying to do. Hi, Me toom I don't know why you are asking about the Operating system of S7-1200/1500. But just an addition to Quazee, S7-1200/1500 can be programmed by 2 SW 1. TIA Portal 2. GRAFCET https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtyrn8D7CcU Actually, I have never tried GRAFCET before, but it's possible to use for programming. Please watch the video above.

We are Sec4Cyber, a cyber security Start-Up, our product - SafeGuard cyber security suite for IT/OT devices based on Linux and working as a part of the operating system [snip] We need to install Linux modules/drivers. On of our client wants to make a pilot with those models SIMAIC S7-1200/1500 and Schneider - Modicon M580, In his opinion they have a Linux operating system, we do not have access to controllers and we will have to purchase them for the purpose of the pilot, I read an article from Siemens, that they released in 2019 Linux embedded OS. So we must know If the OS is Linux to move on with the pilot.

ChristophD Grandmaster Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 11/5/2024 Posts: 22431 Rating: (3029)	this will not work with S7-1200/1500 there no API or something else to integrate a 3rd party SW. Zhis should be possible with the SIEMENS IOT Devices (based on Linux) but not with a PLC like S7-1200/S7-1500.

A smart washing machine needs to be connected to the web to make use of the wonderful app driven functionalities. The washing machine is propriety and closed off to change its operating system. Can the washing machine be secured without hacking it? The answer is YES.. by controlling physical access to the unit (!) and by connecting to the web via a "gateway". ... what does the "gateway" mean for you / your client / the PLC is something you have to decide. That "gateway" can be the IOT2000 which is free to load whichever OS you want.. provided you can make it work with the hardware.
