Simodrive 6RA27 to Sinamics DCM 6RA80

Dear All,

we have 6RA27 (simodrive) working as a spindle and C axis on a CNC Machine.

we want to know is Sinamics DCM 6RA80 is compatible with Simodrive 6RA27.

If yes what would be the procedure for migration.

6RA27?  Wow, I've used hundreds of them.  But I'm old like them.

I'm afraid that there is very little in common between a 6RA27 and a DCM.  Although your motor will obviously be compatible, the interface to your controller and re-commissioning will be need to be completely re-done.  The DCM has more in common with the SINAMICS inverters than it does with the old legacy DC drives. 

You are probably best served by contacting your local Siemens partner and come up with a best course of action.

a part from contacting siemens we just need the steps of migration. so that we can technically know the exact solution.

the interface between the controller and drive is hard wired. used digital inputs as a command source and analog inputs as a speed setpoint.

we just want to know, that , if any change will be required in the sinumerik controller, if we use Sinamics DCM,

do we have to compare the parameters of two drive.?

it is easy for you (Jeff) but for us it is a little bit confusing. we can not match the parameters of two drive. the nomenclature of  drives, is totally different with each other.

for us it is not possible to replace Simo drive with Sinamics DCM, so we are hesitating to buy one. 

can you give us a solid reason for the compatible  replacement that sinamics DCM will work.  

You really cannot compare the parameters, as you are comparing drive systems that are either 2 or 3 generations apart.  There are actually very few that need to be set and this is best accomplished by downloading the STARTER software.  The fundamental things to know from your current setup is:

1. What RPM does 100% speed reference relate to?

2. What Control signals do you need (RUN, JOG, etc.)

3. What status signals do you need (Fault, Ready, etc.)

but still there are numbers of things that we have to understand

as you know For C axis the simo drive uses positioning hardware but there is no hardware for

C axis in Sinamics DCM   

and from your Above answer, we are assuming that the Sinamics DCM is compatible.

it will not be a retrofit job

here is the problem

we are replacing simodrive 6RA27 with Sinamics DCM 6RA80 in a CNC machine
the turning part (spindle) is working normal. but when we select drive as C axis (milling)
we get problem.
after 4 to 5 step it loses its position tracking and the G codes instruction stucks.
some time it takes only two steps and some time only one.

the interface between the sinumerik and drive is hard wired. there are two analog setpoints for
turning and milling. two data sets are used in sinamics for each,
please give us a technical support for the above problem.
