Simotion C230 vs CPU 315T with IM174

plc_user Posts: 57 Rating: (0)	I thought to use a cpu 315T with an IM174 to synchronise a flying saw with the line. I have an external encoder for the linespeed-position and a masterdrive witch is now controlled +-10V. What would the consequences be if I used Simotion C230 (with onboard encoder inputs and analogue output). Is there a distinct price difference, what about the easynes of programming in both systems, what about longterm availability of both systems? Can logic that is not motion-relevant be changed during run in a C230? Thanks

If you are familiar with SIMATIC S7 CPUs the programming of the 315T may be a bit easier, but you are limited to the functions thespecial function blocks (PLC open) offer to invoke any technological function. With the C230 you can use all SIMOTION functions, and with ST you can progam what you like. I compare it with a open field you have to cross, with SIMOTION you can gowherever you want,with a Technology CPU you havefences, that help you to cross the field, but yo can not reach any place on the field. longterm availability : both are actual products For the 31xT CPU there is a flying shears application, which may fit to your needs: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21062270

With the help of the delivered documentations, you can take the application as the basis to use, adapt, and extend your own application. There is also an application “Flying saw” included. A material band, being fed by a material feeder, shall be cut into identical pieces by applying SIMOTION. Due to the material characteristics this cannot be realized in one step across the whole width. To avoid any effect of the material band on the cut, it is either necessary to stop the band during the cutting or to move the cutting device synchronously to the band, i.e. a "flying" cut of the band has to be realized. plc_user Posts: 57 Rating: (0)	I recently heard the prices, and the CPU 315T and the Simotion C230 are almost equal priced. Which means that the Simotion should be cheaper because I don't need the IM174.
